The IBM EJ1M Expanded Function Storage Backplane has 12 SFF-3 Bays for HDD or SSD, dual SAS controllers with write cache, a RDX Bay and an optional Ext SAS port for attaching expansion units the IBM Power system unit. The IBM EJ1M Expanded Function Storage Backplane has 6B64 CCIN and 01DH486 part number. The IBM EJ1M 6B64 Expanded Function Storage Backplane supports up to 12 SFF-3 SAS HDDs or SSDs, and both the IBM EJ1M 6B64 and IBM EJ1D 2D35 expanded function storage backplanes support the optional attachment of a IBM EXP12SX or IBM EXP24SX expansion drawer in mode 1 via the optional EJ0W feature. The IBM EJ1M and EJ1D expanded function backplane’s bays are accessed by the IBM 57D8 6Gb SAS RAID controllers, of which the bays support hot-plug concurrent maintenance. The IBM EJ1M 6B64 and IBM EJ1D 2D35 expanded function storage backplanes also enables two EJ0W SAS ports on the rear of the system unit and needed to attach a IBM EXP24S or IBM EXP24SX I/O expansion drawer. The IBM EJ0W dual SAS Port feature requires a slot and is an optional feature for the IBM EJ1M 6B64 Expanded Function Storage Backplane.
The Dual IBM 57D8 6Gb SAS RAID controllers with write cache are in integrated slots that do not use PCIe slots. Write cache augments the controller's high performance for write intensive workloads, especially for systems with HDDs installed. A total of 1.8 GB physical write cache is leveraged with compression to provide up to 7.2 GB cache capacity. The IBM 57D8 6Gb SAS RAID controllers write cache contents are protected against power loss with flash memory and super capacitors removing the need for battery maintenance. The high performance SAS controllers provide RAID-0, RAID-5, RAID-6, RAID-10, RAID-5T2, RAID-6T2, and RAID-10T2 support, as well as Active/Active configurations with two or more arrays. IBM Easy Tier function is also supported so the dual controllers can automatically move hot data to attached SSD and cold data to attached HDD for IBM AIX, Linux Server and VIOS environments.
Important Notes:
Both 5xx and 4k byte sector HDD and SSD are supported, but 5xx and 4k drives cannot be mixed in the same array. The IBM EJ1M Expanded Function Storage Backplane does not support split backplane. For split backplane use IBM EJ1C or IBM EJ1E backplane features. Both IBM SSD and HDD Small Form Factor (SFF) or 2.5-inch drives are mounted on carrier trays specific to the IBM Power system unit SFF-3 slots.
