9009-42G EP5F 10-core IBM S924 Power9 processor servers has 2 sockets, supports up to 28 I/O expansion drawers, includes IBM PowerVM hypervisor license and is in a P20 software tier. IBM S924 9009-42G is the latest Power9 scale-out, multi-socket S924 server family that can be configured with 8, 10, 11, 12, 16, 20, 22 or 24 cores, supports up to 4TB of memory via 32 DDR4 DIMM slots and is powered entirely by fourth generation PCIe architecture. The new IBM Power9 S924 servers provide the largest memory bandwidth and memory storage on the market, have 512 K L2 Cache, 120 MB L3 Cache and provide up to 340 GB/s processor to memory bandwidth and support 14 NVMe adapters.
The 9009-42G single socket EP5F 10-core configuration has a maximum of 174,500 CPW for IBM i with all cores active, and the two socket EP5F 20-core configuration has a maximum of 318,000 CPW. The IBM 9009-42G S924 IBM Power9 chip core speeds have different speed ranges; the 8 and 16-core is 3.8 to 4.0 GHz, 10 and 20-core is 3.5 to 3.9 GHz, 11 and 22-core typical 3.45 to 3.9 GHz, the 12 and 24-core is 3.4 to 3.9 GHz. The 9009-42G and 9009-42A S924 Power9 scale-out models are designed for mission critical, I/O intensive workloads, but the new 42G is powered entirely by fourth generation PCIe architecture (slots, switches and lanes), supporting up to 14 NVMe devices with up to 6.4 TB each and 89.6 TB of NVMe data storage space for IBM i, AIX, Linux server operating systems or IBM VIOS configurations. IBM Power9 on-chip analytics and algorithms enable workloads to run at optimized processor frequency for maximum enterprise class performance and throughput.
IBM Power9 9009-4GA S924 Specifications:
32 Power9 memory DDR4 Main Storage DIMM slots in 16, 32, 64 and 128 GB increments for a maximum of 4TB of main storage and 12 or 18 SFF SAS Bay options for internal Power9 Disk Drives or SDD. See product page details for specifications, configuration options and pricing requests. The amount of internal and external SSD and disk space supported by the 9009-42G is determined by various configuration factors, but 28 EXP24SX I/O expansion drawers and EMX0 PCIe3 expansion drawers can be attached (28 is the maximum combined quantity).

IBM 9009-42G and other Power9 systems support PCIe Gen4 and earlier PCIe generation feature cards. If I/O performance, response times and throughput are contributing factors for upgrading your IBM i, you should purchase new RAID Controllers and SAS adapters, as fourth generation PCIe adapters provide significant performance gains. The 9009-42G Power9 systems support 220V power. IBM S924 Power9 models have three backplane options, a 12 SFF-3 Bays, a 18 SFF-3 bays with write cache or a 12 SFF-3 bays with dual IOA and write cache. IBM i workloads require 4k byte block hard disk drives or SSD. If you need to boot more than one Virtual IO server from internal disks, your Power9 system needs to the split backplane feature and a minimum of four disks (two per Virtual IO Server). The Power9 System S924 model 9009-42G pricing depends on the configuration of the server. Each 9009-42G system comes custom configured to the exact specifications that the customer requests, including number of active cores and processers, memory, storage, operating system level and licsenses, and number of concurrent users.
