IBM 2D35 EJ1D 18 Bay Expanded Function Storage Backplane SFF-3 Dual IOA with Write Cache Opt Ext SAS port

The IBM 2D35 is an Expanded Function Storage Backplane that supports 18 SSD or HDD SFF-3 drives, includes two high performance controllers with 1.8 GB physical write cache and can have an optional external SAS port. The IBM 2D35 EJ1D backplance has 01DH407 part number, and each 2D35 EJ1D bay supports concurrent maintenance (hot-plug).

The IBM 2D35 EJ1D high performance adapters or dual I/O adapters are IBM 57D8 PCIe3 x8 cache SAS RAID internal adapter 6 Gb, and have 00MA020, 00MA025 and 01JC773 part numbers. The IBM 57D8 PCIe3 x8 cache SAS RAID internal adapter is included with the IBM 2D35 EJ1D 18 Bay Expanded Function Storage Backplane. The IBM 2D35’s dual controllers run in SFF-3 SAS bays of the system unit and their write cache are placed in integrated slots and do not use PCIe slots. Write cache augments controller's high performance for workloads with writes, especially for HDD. The 1.8 GB physical write cache is leveraged with compression to provide up to 7.2 GB cache capacity. The write cache contents are protected against power loss with flash memory and super capacitors removing the need for battery maintenance.

The IBM 2D35 EJ1D high performance SAS controllers deliver RAID-0, RAID-5, RAID-6, RAID-10, RAID-5T2, RAID-6T2, and RAID-10T2 configurations, and support Active/Active configurations with two arrays or more configured. Easy Tier function is supported so the dual controllers can automatically move hot data to attached SSD and cold data to attached HDD for IBM Power AIX, Linux Server and VIOS environments. The IBM 2D35 EJ1D backplane can be used with IBM I, AIX, or Linus Server Red Hat Enterprise, SUSE Enterprise or Ubuntu Server distributions. The IBM 2D35 EJ1D backplane does not support split backplane function. Split backplane requires a IBM 57D7 EJ1C or IBM EJ1E backplane features. Both 5xx and 4k byte sector HDD and SSD are supported, but 5xx and 4k drives cannot be mixed in the same array.

The IBM 2D35 Expanded Function Storage Backplane enables two EJ0W SAS ports on the rear of the system unit that allow attachment of one IBM EXP24S or IBM EXP24SX I/O expansion drawer in mode1 to add 24 HDD or SSD. The EJ0W SAS ports option is a chargeable feature and must be requested at time of order, and required one x8 PCIe slot.
