The IBM 3996 Model 174 Gen 2 has the capability of holding up to 174 optical discs with a total storage capacity of up to 10.44 TB. The Model 174 has two 60 GB optical disc drives with an option of going to four drives. Adding two more drives reduces the number of disc slots to 166, resulting in a capacity of up to 9.96 TB. Adding two additional optical drives to this model reduces the total storage capacity of the 3996 by 480 GB.
