IBM 5B1F 7.72 TB Nearline SAS Disk Drive is a 7200 RPM 4K SAS LFF-1 Nearline Disk Drive for IBM Power AIX and Linux Server systems, has 00LY301 00LY298 part numbers and ES64 EL64 feature codes. Depending on the IBM Power Server, the IBM 5B1F may have a 5B49 CCIN, of which is identical and has the same part numbers. The IBM 5B1F 7.72 TB Nearline Disk Drive is only available in refurbished condition as of December 31, 2021. The IBM 5B1F 7.72 TB Nearline Disk Drive has 3.5-inch Large Form Factor LFF and uses a Gen-1 carrier tray, supported in LFF-1 SAS bays such an IBM EXP12SX Storage Enclosure.

IBM ships the IBM 5B1F SAS Disk Drive formatted with 4224 byte sectors for additional data integrity protection, which results in 7.72 TB capacity, but can be reformatted to 4096 byte sectors for 8 TB capacity, but with less protection.

Note: Reformatting large, 7200 rpm drives takes a very significant time. A IBM 5B1F 7.72 TB Nearline SAS Disk Drive cannot be in the same array as 10k or 15k rpm drives.
