The IBM LTO8 Tape Drive is a high-performance, high-capacity tape storage backup and restore device for IBM i, AIX, Linux Power Servers and other open system platforms. IBM Ultrium 8 or LTO8 tape cartridge can store up to 6 TB of uncompressed data or up to 15 TB of compressed data assuming a 2.5 to 1 compression ratio.

Other LTO8 tape drives supported on the IBM TS4300 Tape Library Model 3555 include: IBM AGKM 00GH812 LTO8 half-high tape drives can connect with a 8Gb Fibre Channel interface and has a maximum 300 MB per second native data transfer rate and will auto-negotiate to lower speeds. The IBM AGKM LTO8 Fibre Channel Half-High Tape Drive with 00GH812 part number can also be purchased in a full height format as IBM AGKP LTO8 Fibre Channel Full-High Tape Drive with 00GH814 part number, but has two 8Gb ports and a 360 MB per second maximum native transfer rate. The IBM AGKN LTO8 SAS Tape Drive Half-High with part number 00GH810 has a 300 MB per second maximum transfer rate.

Note: The actual capacity varies depending on the application, the type of data, and the tape cartridge. 6 TB is typical and 15 TB is possible when the Data Compression setting is activated. The default setting of Data Compression is controlled by the host system. The user and the application software can control the activation or deactivation of the data compression setting.
