IBM 59E9 00LY161 ES0U 387GB SFF-3 4k IBM SSD eMLC AIX Linux
IBM ES0U 387GB SFF-3 4k SSD eMLC for Power AIX and Linux is a SFF 2.5-inch SAS Enterprise Solid State Drive formatted with 4K byte sectors. The ES0U IBM SSD is supported in Gen3 SAS bays (SFF-3) in a Power8 system unit. The IBM ES0U and ES0V SSDs are identical and have the same 59E9 CCIN, but have different feature codes to specify how the solid state drive will be used. ES0U is used for IBM AIX, Linux and VIOS, and EN0V is used for IBM iSeries.
The IBM Power8 S814 8286-41A and S824 8286-42A servers support two new SSD features in the IBM EXP24S EL1S SFF Gen2-bay Drawer: 387 GB SFF-2 4k SSD for IBM i (59E8 00E8710 ES0R) and 775 GB SFF-2 4k SSD for IBM i (59C3 00E8713 ES0T). Also available are SSDs mounted in a Gen2 carrier as 387 GB SSF-3 4k SSD for IBM i (59E9 00LY161 ES0V) and 775 GB SFF-3 4k SSD for IBM i (59EB 00LY162 ES0X) for use in the CEC Gen3 bays. A new 528 byte, single-sided format disk, the 571 GB 15k RPM SAS SFF-3 Disk Drive (59CE 00E8653 ESDE), is available for use on S814 and S824 servers. The 00LY161 IBM 59E9 disk drive is also supported on Power7 servers as 571 GB 15K RPM SAS SFF-1 (59CE 00E8648 ESDJ) and as 571 GB 15K RPM SAS SFF-2 (59CF 00E8660 ESDN).

Note: IBM 4k drives cannot be reformatted to 5xx drives (or vice versa). IBM is transitioning away from manufacturing SAS Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and Solid State Drives (SSD) formatted with 512 and 528 byte sector (5xx), and instead will only be providing 4K byte sector drives. Although most AIX and Linux applications will not experience issues since data access to the SAS drives is via a file system, companies should confirm with their application provider to ensure compatibility with using SSD or HDD with 4K byte sectors. AIX and Linux applications that require direct access to the raw data on the SSD or HDD, may require 512 and 528 byte sector (5xx) sectors drives.
