The IBM S1112 is a compact, entry-level Power11 server designed for organizations that depend on IBM i, AIX, or Linux applications but do not require a large enterprise-class system. It extends IBM’s latest Power11 technology to smaller businesses, branch operations, and departments running critical databases, ERP systems, transaction processing, and custom business applications.

The primary business value of IBM’s S1112 is that it allows companies to modernize essential Power workloads without undertaking a costly application rewrite or migration to a different computing platform. Existing IBM i and Power applications can continue operating within a familiar environment while gaining access to newer processor, memory, security, availability, and systems-management technology.

The IBM Power S1112 gives small and midsized Power customers a modern platform for running critical applications without abandoning their existing software investments. It combines newer Power11 performance, security, resiliency, virtualization, and hybrid-cloud capabilities in an entry-level system designed to control modernization risk.

For an organization operating an older IBM Power server, the IBM S1112 can provide a practical way to improve performance and reliability, strengthen cybersecurity, and create capacity for future growth while avoiding the disruption and expense of a complete application-platform replacement.

IBM i customers looking for an entry level Power server for running smaller workloads and can fit those workloads in 4 or less IBM i Virtual Machines VMs, the IBM S1112 is a price-attractive solution to consider. The IBM S1112 was built for entry-level IBM i customers, and the EJMT 4-Core 3.3 to 4.0 GHz Processor is the only IBM Power 11 server in the P05 Software Tier. The IBM S1112 supports a maximum of 4 IBM i partitions for both the 4-core or 10-core processors. IBM i VMs are confined to run within 4 cores with a maximum of 64 GB of memory. If the IBM S1112 server has more than 64 GB of memory, then IBM i is capable of using the full 64 GB of memory, and the extra memory needed can be used for the hypervisor. IBM i clients are also restricted to using mirroring, and support a maximum of 6.4TB after mirroring. Additional cores and memory purchased can also be used to run Linux, VIOS, or AIX workloads alongside IBM i workloads.

Improved performance and growth capacity
The IBM S1112 provides greater processing capacity than earlier entry-level Power generations, helping organizations support increasing transaction volumes, larger databases, longer-running batch jobs, and additional applications. This performance improvement can extend the useful life of existing business software while providing room for future growth.

Protection of existing investments
Organizations can continue using established IBM i, AIX, and Linux applications rather than replacing them solely because the underlying hardware is aging. This reduces migration risk, avoids unnecessary redevelopment costs, and preserves institutional knowledge embedded in existing systems and business processes.

Greater operational resilience
IBM Power11 is positioned as a highly resilient platform for mission-critical applications. IBM emphasizes high availability, automated system management, secure startup, embedded encryption, and technologies intended to reduce both planned and unplanned downtime. These capabilities are particularly valuable for organizations whose order processing, financial operations, manufacturing, distribution, or customer service depend on continuous system availability.

Strong Cybersecurity foundation
The S1112 incorporates security capabilities into the server architecture rather than relying entirely on external software. Power11 technologies include embedded cryptography, secure boot capabilities, and tools intended to help organizations identify and manage cryptographic assets. This provides a stronger platform for protecting sensitive business data and meeting security and compliance requirements.

Simplified infrastructure modernization
The server supports PowerVM virtualization, allowing multiple applications or operating environments to share the same physical system while remaining logically separated. This can help organizations consolidate older servers, reduce data-center complexity, and improve the utilization of computing resources.

Hybrid-cloud flexibility
Applications can remain on premises while integrating with cloud services or IBM Power Virtual Server. This gives organizations a gradual modernization path instead of forcing an immediate move to a fully public-cloud architecture. IBM positions Power Virtual Server as a way to extend Power workloads into IBM Cloud while maintaining a consistent Power environment.

Preparation for AI-enabled applications
Power11 includes on-chip capabilities intended to support AI inference close to existing business data. This creates opportunities to add fraud detection, forecasting, anomaly identification, customer-service automation, and other AI-assisted functions to established applications without first moving sensitive data to an unrelated platform.
