IBM 5802 12X I/O Drawer PCIe for SFF disk drives
IBM 5802 12X I/O SFF Disk Drive Drawer PCIe provides a 4U, 19-inch I/O drawer containing 10 PCIe 8x I/O adapter slots and 18 SAS hot-swap SFF SAS disk bays, which can be used for either solid state drives or hard disk drives and can provide up to 5.4 TB of storage. The IBM 5802 18 disk drive bays can be organized into either one group of 18 disk drive bays (for AIX or Linux), two groups of nine disk drive slots (for IBM i, AIX or Linux), or four groups of four or five disk drive bays (for AIX or Linux). Selecting either one, two, or four groups of drive bays is done with a mode switch on the drawer.
 
AIX and Linux Requirements
Position 1 requires either a 5901 PCIe Dual x4 SAS Adapter or two 5903 PCIe Dual x4 3Gb SAS RAID Adapters

Linux

The IBM 5802 is supported on IBM Power7 and Power6 systems. A maximum of two 5802 drawers can be placed on the same 12X loop. Mixing a 5802, 5796 and a 7314-G30 on the same loop is not supported, but mixing a 5802 and 5877 on the same loop is supported with a maximum of two drawers per loop. The PCIe adapter slots use Gen3 blind-swap cassettes and support hot plugging of adapter cards. A minimum configuration of two 12X DDR cables and two ac power cables and two SPCN cables is required to ensure proper redundancy. 12X SDR cables are not supported. The drawer attaches to the host CEC enclosure with a 12X adapter in a GX slot via 12X DDR cables (1861, 1862, 1864 or 1865).

IBM Power7 uses the EJ04 GX++ Dual-port 12x Channel Attach adapter to attach a feature 5802 12X I/O Drawer. The feature EJ04 provides double data rate (DDR) capacity bandwidth.

Power6 use 5609 GX Dual-port 12X Channel Attach or 5616 GX Dual-port 12X Channel Attach  to attach a 5802 12X I/O Drawer. The 5608 GX adapter is not supported with the 5802 drawer. The 5609 provides the higher capacity bandwidth (DDR), but is available only with 4-core or larger servers.

IBM Power8 and new Power systems cannot attach a 5802, should migrate to a EXP24S SAS HDD/SSD Expansion Drawer 5887 or newer expansion drawer. Clients migrating from earlier generation servers may have been using I/O drawers such as the GX++ attached feature 5802 or 5877 PCIe 12X I/O Drawers with PCIe Gen 1 slots. Though most PCIe adapters in the feature 5802 or 5877 drawers can be moved to this server, and its disk drives can be converted and moved to the feature 5887 EXP24S drawer, the feature 5802 and 5877 drawers are not supported. Similarly, the GX++ attached EXP30 Ultra SSD Drawer (EDR1 or 5888) is not supported and older 3.5-inch-based feature 5886 EXP12S SAS Disk Drawer and feature 5786 EXP24 SCSI Disk Drawer are not supported.

I/O drawers are connected to the adapters in the CEC with the following data transfer cables:
12X DDR cables for the feature 5802 and 5877 I/O drawers
12X SDR or DDR cables for the feature 5796 and 7314-G30 I/O drawers

Power control cables, 12X I/O drawer cable connections are always made in loops to help protect against a single point-of-failure resulting from an open, missing, or disconnected cable. A system with non-looped configurations could experience degraded performance and serviceability. If a non-loop connection is detected, a problem is reported.

The first 12X I/O drawer attached in any I/O drawer loop requires two data transfer cables. Each additional drawer in the loop (up to the maximum allowed) requires one additional data transfer cable. The first 12X I/O drawer attached to a system unit requires two power control cables. Each additional I/O drawer added to a system requires one additional power control cable. Each system has one power control loop. All I/O drawers attached to a system are included in the same power control loop. Power control cable loops are different in this regard from data transfer cable loops.

IBM 5802 SAS disk drive enclosure holds up 18 disk drives, and can be organized in several different configurations depending on the operating system used, the type of SAS adapter card, and the position of the hard disk drive partitions switch. The IBM 5802 is a 4U high I/O drawer containing ten PCIe slots and eighteen SAS hot-swap Small Form Factor disk bays. This 5802 drawer attaches to the central electronics complex via 12X DDR cables (1862, 1864 or 1865). When SFF disks are installed, they are driven by at least one SAS PCIe adapter. Using a mode switch, the 18 SFF slots can be configured as one group of 18 slots (AIX/Linux) or two groups or 9 slots (AIX/IBM i/Linux) or four groups of 4 or 5 slots (AIX/Linux).

The 5802 expansion units are 19-inch, rack-mountable, I/O expansion drawers that are designed to be attached to the system using 12x double date rate (DDR) cables. The expansion units can accommodate 10, generation 3 cassettes. These cassettes can be installed and removed without removing the drawer from the rack. The expansion units do not support I/O processor (IOP) adapters.
 
Slot priority
The slot priority for all adapters is P1-C1, P1-C4, P1-C2, P1-C5, P1-C3, P1-C6, P1-C7, P1-C8, P1-C9, P1-C10.
There are three I/O chips. Each I/O chip controls three or 4 PCI host bridges (PHBs) and each PCIe slot connects directly to a PHB.
One I/O chip controls slots P1-C1, P1-C2, and P1-C3.
A second I/O chip controls slots P1-C4, P1-C5, and P1-C6.
A third I/O chips controls slots P1-C7, P1-C8, P1-C9, and P1-C10.
Note: For best performance, fill P1-C1, P1-C4, P1-C2, P1-C5, P1-C3, and P1-C6 first with the highest bandwidth adapters. Then fill the remaining slots.
