The IBM System Storage TS2230 Tape Drive is designed to combine IBM tape reliability and performance at open systems prices. Features of the new Ultrium 3 Half-High serial-attached SCSI (SAS) model include:

The IBM System Storage™ TS2230 Tape Drive Express Model (machine type 3580, SEO/part number 3580S3E), an external stand-alone or rack-mountable unit, is designed to offer high capacity and performance designed for the midrange open systems environment and is part of the IBM System Storage TS2200 Tape Drive family. This model incorporates the new Linear Tape-Open (LTO) IBM Ultrium 3 serial-attached SCSI (SAS) Half-High Tape Drive with a maximum tape drive throughput data rate performance of up to 60 MB/sec native data transfer rate.
With the use of the IBM LTO Ultrium 400 GB Data Cartridge , the Ultrium 3 Half-High Tape Drive has a tape cartridge physical capacity up to 400 GB native (800 GB with 2:1 compression). IBM Ultrium 3 Tape Drives can read and write LTO Ultrium 2 Data Cartridges and read LTO Ultrium 1 Data Cartridges.
The TS2230 Express Model uses a 3 Gbps single port SAS interface for connections to a wide spectrum of open system servers. The new model will attach to selected IBM System x™ and PC servers that support Microsoft™ Windows™ and Linux™ systems.
The TS2230 Tape Drive provides an excellent migration path from digital linear tape (DLT or SDLT), 1/4-inch, 4mm, or 8mm tape drives.
